Qingdao Tour

Qingdao locationAs a excellent tourist city in Shandong province, Qingdao is one of China's trading ports with beautiful scenery and an agreeable climate. It is also a noted convalescent and summer resort. As early as in the l920s, Qingdao became a famous tourist resort. Its zigzag seashore, undulating hills, European-style red-roofed houses, and green trees make the city unique. Historical sites and constantly improved modern facilities further enhance the city's attractiveness. Qingdao is an excellent place for sightseers, holiday makers and for holding business talks and exhibitions.

The streets and buildings in Qingdao are shipshape, rising and falling based on the topographic undulation. There are many scenic spots in the city. The dock Zhanqiao (trestle) Bridge is Qingdao's symbol, with the Huilan Pavilion at its end extending out to the sea. Nowadays, the old districts in the city still have European style and sentiments. Some architecture was built by Germans in the early 20th century. A few old buildings, like the churches and villas, form a unique sight or "red tiles, green trees, jade sea and blue sky". The Laoshan Mountain Range, in the northeast of the suburbs, is one of the famous mountains in China. There are many scenic spots in the mountain range. The highest peak of the range is 133m high.

Pu Songling (1640-1715), the famous Qing Dynasty writer, lived in Laoshan where he wrote the book, Strange Tales from a Lonely Studio. The Three Purity Hall in the Supreme Purity Palace, where Pu Songling Lived, is open to tourists. A Taoist temple, the Supreme Purity Palace was first built during the Song Dynasty (960-1279). The area is also famous for its bottled mineral water with which Qingdao beer is made.

Qingdao lies in the North Temperate Zone and has the typical temperate monsoon climate. Under the direct influence of the southeastern monsoon and the sea currents and tides, the city proper features marked marine climate, humid air, mild temperature and clear-cut seasons. In spring, the weather becomes warmer slowly, usually one month later than the inland areas. Summer weather is humid and rainy, but not very hot, while autumns are cool and dry. Winter here is long and usually windy but not unbearably cold.
